Non-destructive Brix assessment for strawberry & blueberry
Know the sugar level of every batch in seconds
Instant, objective, and non-destructive Brix assessment
Sugar content is one of the clearest signals of fruit quality and taste, and one of the hardest to measure without destroying the sample. OneThird's Brix measurement uses near-infrared spectroscopy to read Brix in seconds, without cutting, crushing, or juicing a single berry. Know exactly what you are shipping, accepting, or putting on shelf.
What it measures
Get an instant, objective Brix reading for your batch of strawberries or blueberries. No refractometer, no cutting fruits: quick and immediately digital.
How it works
OneThird's scanner sends near-infrared light (NIR) into the fruit and reads the spectrum how it reflects back. Our algorithms translate this into an accurate Brix reading in seconds, with nothing destroyed and nothing thrown away.
All results are automatically saved to your online dashboard or can be sent to your own quality management system. Everything is fully traceable and ready for reporting at any time.
No more destructive sampling
Traditional Brix testing means cutting into fruit, sacrificing part of the batch just to check the rest.
OneThird's non-destructive measurement lets you test more, faster, without losing a single berry. Every scanned berry is still a sellable berry.
Built for the packhouse floor, distribution centers, and retailer receiving areas, so it fits straight into your existing operation.
Part of a complete quality picture
Accurate, objective Brix is valuable on its own. But pair Brix measurement with visual inspection and shelf-life prediction, and every scan tells you the full story of that fruit. From taste to appearance to how long it will hold.
Start with non-destructive Brix measurement alongside visual inspection for strawberries and blueberries. And add shelf-life prediction to know exactly how many days the fruit has.
As every result lands in the same dashboard, patterns become visible over time. Spot which suppliers consistently deliver on sweetness, which batches need closer attention, and which seasons shift your averages, all without digging through separate reports.
The result is one quality view for growers, distributors, and retailers, built on real data and without a single piece of fruit lost to testing.

How does the Brix reading accuracy compare to the refractometer, in actual numbers?
In lab conditions, a refractometer is precise to around ±0.2 °Brix. But sugar isn't evenly distributed inside a berry, so where you squeeze changes the result. Add person-to-person variation and calibration between tests, and real-world accuracy can drop to as much as ±1 °Brix.
There's also the element of sample size. Squeezing is slow, so most teams test 10 to 20 berries per batch, while you'd need 35 to reliably represent it.
OneThird scans through the whole berry, not just one spot, giving a true reading of the fruit itself, no squeezing, no calibration. And because each scan takes under a second, you can test far more of the batch, giving you a number you can actually stand behind.
Which fruits does OneThird's Brix measurement work for?
OneThird's Brix measurement is currently available for strawberries and blueberries.
How easy is it to get started with Brix measurement?
Implementation is straightforward and most customers are fully onboarded within two weeks. Usually we want to see 100 berry scans to validate a variety. For the most common varieties this is sometimes less, for newer or uncommon varieties we sometimes need to see 200 berries before you can switch your operations fully to OneThird. Our team supports you through the full process, so your team is up and running fast without disrupting your existing operation.
How quickly are results available?
Results are available within seconds and are immediately accessible in the cloud platform. Reports can be shared across supply chain partners in real time, increasing transparency and credibility.
Does it work as a standalone tool or only with other OneThird products?
Like every OneThird assessment, Brix works as a standalone application. It also pairs well with other assessments, such as visual inspection and shelf-life prediction, for a fuller picture of the batch.
How does calibration work?
You don't need to calibrate the system yourself. Our models are continuously refined and updated automatically, so the latest version is always the one you're scanning with.
Fresh produce isn't static, it changes across varieties, seasons and origins. Because we work with customers worldwide, we're constantly gathering new data to keep the models sharp. That means no outdated models, no manual calibration, and no extra work on your end.
Can I do a pilot with you?
Absolutely! We offer pilots starting from three months, giving you enough time to see real results across multiple batches. Our team will guide you through setup and support you throughout, so you get a clear, data-backed picture of what OneThird can do for your operation before making a bigger commitment.
