Quality assessment of
Blueberries

Fast, objective & accurate blueberry quality assessments

Our blueberry quality assessment delivers results within seconds. Giving growers, distributors, and packers the insights they need to make confident, real-time decisions without touching a single berry. Unlike traditional methods that require cutting or pressing, our non-destructive approach keeps every blueberry fully intact, bloom included, and sale-ready.

Digital blueberry quality assessment

Blueberries are among the most delicate and perishable soft fruits in the supply chain. Traditional quality control relies on cutting, pressing, or visual estimation: methods that are slow, subjective, and destructive. Every berry you test to get an answer is a berry you lose.

OneThird changes this. Our scanner assesses blueberries in seconds, delivering objective data on internal and external quality without destructing a single berry. You can measure larger sample sizes in far less time, giving you a much more representative picture of each batch. The result is smarter allocation decisions, less waste, and higher revenue per batch.

Brix data & insights

Brix measures the sugar content of a blueberry and is a direct indicator of eating quality and consumer satisfaction. Our scanner measures Brix and delivers reliable sweetness data on every berry scanned without any cutting or preparation required.

Our scanner uses Near-Infrared (NIR) technology to evaluate the internal condition of each blueberry. Because NIR penetrates beneath the skin without damaging the berry, it provides fast, non-destructive Brix insights. This internal assessment is combined with AI models, resulting in the scanner delivering consistent, objective quality measurements in real time.

Visual Inspection - blueberry - OneThird

Blueberry visual inspection

Bloom, the natural waxy coating on a blueberry's skin, is one of the important visual quality indicators for consumers and retailers. Our visual inspection detects this among other visual defects. All objectively. Surface quality is one of the first things buyers and consumers notice, and inconsistent manual grading puts that at risk. OneThird's AI-driven visual inspection gives you objective, reliable quality assessments on every blueberry, eliminating the variability that comes with human grading.

The software evaluates bloom condition, mold risk, bleeding, and collapse against consistent criteria, automatically and within seconds. All early indicators of decay. Acting on this data before affected fruit moves further down the supply chain protects both product quality and customer relationships.

Dashboard quality assessment - Blueberry - OneThird

All the data you need in one dashboard

No more manual data entry. All quality results from your blueberry scans, including pictures with quality assessments, give an instant view of whether a batch meets your specifications.

All results are directly visible in the OneThird dashboard, creating a shared, transparent record accessible to growers, distributors, and retailers. This level of digitization reduces manual workload, speeds up allocation decisions, and builds the kind of supply chain consistency that keeps quality high.

Additionally, the data gives quality managers the insights they need to build analytical reports that reveal trends across varieties, suppliers, and Brix, shelf-life, or other parameters. Prefer to work in your own system? Results transfer automatically into your QMS via API.

Data-driven and instant testing

You already run quality checks on every batch. But if that means cutting berries, pressing for firmness, or relying on an operator's eye, you already know the limitations. Time-consuming, results vary between people, and the fruit you test cannot be sold.

OneThird removes those trade-offs. Same rigor, no product loss, and consistent results regardless of who's on the floor. All without any interference with your current QC process and fully transitioned within two months.

What quality parameters can the products measure

We have developed a scanner for Brix measurement and a lightbox for visual inspection, measuring visual defects such as bloom condition, mold risk, bleeding, and collapse.

Both products are powered by AI and ensure all quality data and insights are visible in the OneThird dashboard.

How does NIR technology work for blueberry quality control?

Each blueberry is scanned with near-infrared light, and the reflected spectrum is analyzed to reveal internal characteristics, such as sugar content. No cutting or destruction of the fruit is required.

Which blueberry varieties and growing regions is the scanner calibrated for?

Our database is extensive and continuously expanding, covering varieties and growing conditions across key blueberry regions worldwide, including South Africa, South America, and Europe. Contact us to ensure your variety is part of our database.

Where in the blueberry supply chain does this solution fit?

The solution is designed for growers, distributors, and retailers who need fast, accurate, blueberry quality data and insights. Optimizing supply chain decisions, increasing revenue, and reducing waste.

Can I try it out in my QC operations?

Yes, absolutely. For Brix measurement and visual inspection, getting started is simple and fits around your existing processes with no disruption required. Results are visible from the first scans, and a pilot can start from three months. Shelf life prediction works differently. It is a more layered parameter, shaped by variables unique to your varieties, growing conditions, and supply chain, so building a model that performs reliably takes more time. That one deserves a proper conversation before we align on expectations.

Throughout the pilot you work with real quality data from your own blueberries, measured non-destructively on your own line. By the end, you have a solid understanding of what the system delivers for your specific operation, and most customers tell us that going back to destructive testing stops feeling like a realistic option after that.
