We are hiring!

OneThird has developed a method to predict shelf life of fresh produce, such as tomatoes or strawberries. This information helps our customers to make better and more dynamic logistical decisions resulting in less food waste!

We are looking to expand our team with a Optical Sensors and Systems Engineer (M/F)

We have already launched our first generation of -optical sensing based- scanners in the market, all fully connected to our cloud platform. Helping our customers making smart decision in the fresh produce supply chains, saving costs and food waste. Now we are ready to upgrade those scanners to a next generation hardware platform, and for this we need you!

Do you want to work on the latest optical sensing technologies to enable faster and automated hyperspectral to scale our solutions in packhouses? Or miniaturizing sensors to enable high volume applications at retail stores or even consumers? We are constantly testing the latest generation of sensors and imagers, and including them in our scanner roadmap.

For this you need solid knowledge of optics. It’s not just about the optical sensor or imager, but also lightsources, lenses, optical simulations and design and how all of this can be integrated in produce scanners for the food supply chain. You also are able to build test software using Labview or Python to automate your experiments, and analyses the results in an efficient manner.

You work together in a multidisciplinary team with product designers, mechanical engineers, software developers and data scientists. Together creating the next standard in digital quality control of fresh produce.

Responsibilities:

          • Optical system design, including sampling design for various fruits and vegetables
          • Developing and building test setups to assess new sensing and imaging components and systems.
          • Software and firmware development for test setups
          • Quality assurance of production scanners to ensure the right optical properties and calibrations
          • Together with the rest of the engineering group work towards next generation systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • A BS degree in Physics or Electronics (with strong experience in optics).
  • Solid understanding and experience in optics system design
  • Software development (for test setups) in either Labview or Python
  • 3+ years of relevant experience as a R&D engineer.

Location: Kennispark, Enschede. Expect to be there 3-4 days minimum working in office to work on customer projects. Meetings, analysing data, writing reports can obviously be done from home just as well. Working hours: work when you work at your best, but be available for our team meetings.

OneThird way of working

We care about results and maximizing customer satisfaction. We care about commitment to our mission; preventing food waste and making a difference in the world. We value teamwork and face to face interactions, as it’s people who make the difference. But we don’t care about making hours in the office just for the sake of it. We don’t care about meetings for the sake of meetings.

We understand some people are more productive in the morning and others later in the day. We’ve been a hybrid office organization even before Covid hit the world.

There a specific touch points when we all meet together, our morning daily check-ins, which can be done virtually. So we’re all aware of what’s going on. We’ll try to meet at least once a week face-to-face in the office, as some things are just better to do in person. And once every 6-8 weeks we’ll spend a couple of hours together reflecting on our past successes and setbacks, reminding ourselves of our long-term goals and setting new goals for the next 6–8-week period.

But besides these touch points, we’ll let you choose where you want to work. If you feel comfortable in the office, we’ll see you there. If you’re more productive in your home office, don’t let us stop you!
