Are you a full-stack developer on a mission? Read here to find out more...
We are looking to expand our team with a Data Engineer.
We are building a digital twin of the food supply chain. With the help of AI, we aim at decreasing food waste by real time insights in the shelf life of fresh produce. To make this accurate and scalable, we need your help!
We're working together with our partners to develop a unique database of petabytes of data of fresh produce, including images and tabular data. With the help of these data sources, we create powerful algorithms that make the difference at our customer in their logistics and quality assurance processes. We are currently implementing our solution in the supply chain in the Netherlands, UK, Marrocco and South Africa.
As a pragmatic and detail-oriented Data Engineer, you are excited to tackle complex data challenges that power real-time insights which help reduce food waste. You have the engineering mindset and technical skills to design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines and infrastructure. Data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration are at the core of what we do — ensuring high data quality and availability for downstream analytics, forecasting, and machine learning.
Responsibilities:
-
- Design, build, and manage data pipelines using Azure data ecosystem using e.g. Data Factory, Synapse Pipelines, and Fabric
- Implement and maintain data lake architecture (using Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 or OneLake) for image and tabular data using data design patterns
- Collaborate with ML and software teams to operationalize data for training, inference, and integration
- Develop semantic models and dataflows in Microsoft Fabric to support analytics and business intelligence
- Enable (Power BI) dashboards and reports by delivering high-quality, well-modeled datasets
- Ensure data governance, security, validation, and monitoring across the platform
- Optimize data storage, transformation, and querying for performance and scalability
- Contribute to DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Bicep, Terraform)
Preferred Qualifications:
-
- Master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computational Science, AI, Physics, Econometrics, Data Engineering, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field
- Fluent in English, spoken and written
-
- 2–5 years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar data infrastructure role
-
- Strong in SQL and Python, with experience in data frameworks such as PySpark, Databricks, Kubernetes, Pandas, or workflow orchestration tools (e.g. Airflow or Azure Data Factory)
-
- Skilled in translating complex data into clear, actionable insights for internal teams and partners — we value concise, consistent, and collaborative communication over long reports
- About you:
-
- You thrive in a start-up environment, take initiative, and are ready to jump in wherever needed to drive success
-
- You’re motivated to fix the broken links in the food chain and want your work to have real-world impact
Location:
Enschede or Amsterdam. Expect to work in the office 1-2 days per week minimum to collaborate with the team and test setups. Working hours: work when you work at your best, but be available for our team meetings.
